It was on the beaches of Montauk where Barbara Campbell first became inspired to design jewelry. Stepping across the sand, she discovered the perfect natural rock and wrapped it in wire—creating her very first piece, which the world came to know and love as her signature "Lucky Six" necklace. Barbara Campbell is a visionary Cuban, Jamaica-American woman from Washington Heights who studied entrepreneurship in high school and studied fashion at Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) college and went on to enjoy a decade-long career in the beauty industry. Her stylistic sense and thoughtful design process comes through in her handcrafted jewelry line without compromising the aesthetics of Barbara Campbell Accessories © eponymous line, founded in 2006. Splitting her time exploring between Park Slope and The Hampton's, Campbell designs her collections with an eye for urban chic and a feel for nature. Each of her handcrafted pieces is hand-constructed and produced with high-grade materials in her Brooklyn studio in New York. Accompanying Campbell's commitment to exceptional quality is her dedication to the practice of greenmanship, which is why she works with only the finest recycled vintage materials designing limited-edition and one-of-a-kind creations. Barbara Campbell's handcrafted designs described as "clean and contemporary," architecturally and naturally inspired," and evoking "more art than ornamentation." Yet the designer's philosophy remains simple and elegant. She says with a smile, "You have to put meaning into your creations to make them special and functional. That's what I do—I create from the heart and bring a feeling of love and classic wearability to my collections. I design it with the fashion forward professional, fashionistas and the socialite women in mind. I enjoy the process of design from start to finish and working with all the women I design for." After having stayed with a goldsmith in Zweibruecken for one year in 2002, I began to take up my studies at the Fachhochschule Trier, Fachbereich Edelstein- & Schmuckdesign in Idar-Obertein, Germany in 2003. After 2 years in Idar, I decided in 2005 to continue my studies at the School of Jewellery in Birmingham, UK, from which I graduated with a Distinction in both courses, BA(Hons) Jewellery & Silversmithing and MA Jewellery, Silversmithing & Related.
