At the same time Gueta pursued his quest for material. One encounter was to prove particularly decisive: silicone. It quickly became his material of choice. He invented a technique that he called “lace fed with silicone” and took out a patent for the method. Spurred on by this impetus, he founded a company, Silka Design, and began to produce his own line of jewelry made of a mixture of textile and silicone. These pieces were imbued with such an innovative spirit that they almost immediately won over designers at the vanguard of fashion as well as venues dedicated to artistic creation, such as the Printemps du Design boutique at the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the MoMA store in New York.
But the sensitive, organic and futuristic world of Tzuri Gueta is not restricted to textiles and fashion. The multi-faceted artist’s explorations in design earned him the Grand Prix de la Création awarded by the City of Paris; and the adventure continued into the territory of art with a one-man exhibition at the Tel Aviv Museum of Modern Art.
The latest of Tzuri Gueta’s many hats to date is that of gallery owner. To celebrate his tenth year in France, Gueta is opening his own workshop cum gallery under the arches of the Viaduc des Arts – a prestigious place that is sure to continue to spark enthusiasm.

Tell us about yourself and what you’re up to in life.
I'm Alice Springs and I’m an artist that has been focusing on jewelry design for the past 5 years.
You've lived in a lot of Europe?
 Yes a lot of Europe.
Is that mostly where you’re from?
I feel more European than I do American, but I love being in America, and American culture, it's freedom, community and active youth...
You keep coming back, you must like it.
Yes and I’m glad to be here. I try to incorporate that multinationality into my work, that international sense of bringing people together no matter where they’re from and the universal totality of art and how that doesn’t need any language, it speaks for itself.
Is there anything that sticks out in your life in the past year or two that you can share with us?
Yes I guess it’s a big shift of priorities of how I do the work and why I do it. Most of the time what keeps coming back is creating a work ethic and thinking about the message behind the work and the reason why I do it. So giving it a little bit more depth, I have always had that but I was really focusing on the esthetic part of it. Now that I have that pretty much down I hope, I’m trying to put out a message there of basically taking care of the earth, taking care of one another, and sort of reaching out... Helping each other out as we’re going through these big shifts since we can’t close our eyes to it anymore. And it feels so much better and right in doing it, it gives you this other motivation. When I’m working I’m juggling with all these different things I’m trying to incorporate into one piece, there’s definitely a lot of research going on, a lot of traveling going on, meeting people, and I’m very open to what I see around me and in general I’m always curious about what people need, what are they're interested in, what am I interested in and that sort of thing.
So lets talk a little bit more about your work, is there a name that it goes by? What do you call it?
Well I call it Mystic Warriors, and it’s funny because when people actually wear the jewelry they feel empowered, that’s what I started hearing right away. That’s great because I’m all about empowering yourself through your own individuality, staying connected, and knowing that we’re all connected, and just being yourself. I try to make it accessible to everyone, even people who wouldn’t normaly go out and buy a special piece of jewelry.
Yeah your pieces are a little bit on the bold side.
Yes they are, they are definitely noticeable. I want people to turn their heads on the street when they see you and yeah maybe talk about it. Nature can be so bold. I inspire a lot of the work on geometry found in nature. I work intuitively with various harmonies that are created with geometric patterns, as in many traditional designs, these statement pieces reflect that.
What do you make it out of, what’s the “guts” of your work.
Well it’s mainly made out of Plexiglas, there’s other components and there will be more coming but I have been in the past few years specializing in Plexiglas and really stressing the fact that it’s recycled Plexiglas.
  Why Plexiglas?
Plexiglas started out in Belgium when I was studying jewelry making in Brussels at the Arts et Metiers and Plexiglas just happen to be in the classroom and I really was drawn to this material. I started researching it, started testing it out, collaborating, figuring out different solutions for this material. It’s kind of this magical moment when you find the material that’s right for you, you sort of fall in love with it, and it becomes this obsession you just can’t get away from each other. I am also incorporating natural materials for future collections.
What’s unique about your work? I understand there’s some geometry involved, could you talk a little bit more about that.
I think what’s most unique about this work is that it’s not just jewelry. It’s fun because I came from a background of painting and many different art forms. I’m a performer myself so I know the body and how it functions and what is pleasing to movement. When I’m making a piece of jewelry I’m thinking about a lot of different aspects to it. Most of the time when people buy a piece and tell me they also hang it on their wall so it becomes an abstract art form. That means I’ve done exactly what I’ve wanted to do. It’s not just an accessory it’s more than that. It's also important people see how they can wear these pieces. I've made it so that the clothes and the jewelry become an outfit, very simple or more complex outfits work well with the jewelry.
Where is your product, where can we find your pieces. Where has it been showcased?
In Seattle it’s been shown in different little art fairs that I’ve done, and different art centers, such as the Kirkland Art Center. It hasn’t been represented by any shops in America yet, and I do stress the word YET because it’s coming out soon worldwide. If not physically worldwide than on the internet. I’m working on the website right now as we speak, and than in Europe it’s been shown in different fashion shops, art galleries.
Can you give us a preview of what’s to come?
There’s a lot more collaborations for sure, that’s priority, there’s going to be new photo shoots, new catalogues, so new collections. New compositions, and hopefully soon partnership with various charities and organizations that are helping to protect the environement, Keep upcycling!
