was born in 1960 in Akhisar, a rural village in Turkey. The free spirited, independent young woman left her country to study abroad in Zurich, Switzerland where she married Halil and gave birth to their daughter. In 1992 the couple founded Kelim, a boutique specializing in handmade goods from their native Turkey. Meral and Halil began designing jewelry inspired by the beautiful patterns in, the traditional Turkish carpets and the natural beauty of their adopted country, Switzerland. After the success of their first wholesale trade show, the couple focused solely on designing and producing the Kelim Jewelry Collection. Together with their nephew, Gultekin, they established our atelier in Istanbul, where a team of highly trained craftsmen bring each design to life.
Janice Black Elk-Jim
Janice comes from a Northern Traditional family, of Rosebud, South Dakota (Sicangu) while being one of the youngest, she received guidance of, "Remain quiet, Learn & Listen" So with all this quietness she proudly presents her "lessons to the World"
Starting at a young age of nine, typical basic patterns in looming, stringing were shown to her. It was not til 1977 while staying at Cape Cod, Mass did her own style change from basic traditional color patterns to extreme contemporary designs, also to follow were influences from staying Aspen, Colorado. That she began merging semi precious stones & metals and of course her favorite Pearls She also studied under the Late Mike Little Elk, whom also introduced her to the rich beauty of Lone Mountain Turquoise.
You well always find in her designs a Male Elk Hoof Print, as a tribute to the strong men in her family. Janice also, sculpts in Alabaster, and has studied at The Heard Museum, with the Late Tava, using "Old School Techniques, currently she is studying under Ryan Benally for sculpting with Power Tools. Selected subjects are of Horse's Bust, she then applies the Beaded Masks and always Beads the Halter, Reins, and combines with Lone Mountain Turquoise.
Daniel Jim comes from the beautiful Navajo reservation, in the hills above Window Rock AZ and has a strong Traditional background, his clans, Todachini/Honihanii
While spending his childhood, growing up on the reservation, it was his grandmother that guided him with these traditional lessons of life. Hearding sheep, to yearly farming in Hogback, NM there was NO TIME to be lazy.
With all this hard work, he has incredible discipline for his art work of sculpting & jewelry designing. There is a very special secret that always makes his designs stand out in the crowd, he listens to the Elders and follows these instructions of life and this is how each piece is created.
Currently Daniel is studying sculpting with Award Winner Ryan Benally and Jewelry Techniques with Fritz Casuse, at the Poeh Art Center located at Pojoaque, NM . He also received jewelry techniques under the guidance of the Late Mike Little Elk. Daniel's father (Louie Jim) is a very talented masonery, this is where Daniel gets his Extreme Perfection for all of his creations, also to his credits he holds an Associate of Applied Science, from Red Rocks CCD Golden, Colorado, and has attended Engineering Drafting School, Lakewood,
